Johnny Cougar (now known as John Cougar Mellencamp) was our opening act for that New Year's Eve Show at Cobo Hall. John Mellencamp was p*ssed off because he couldn't get a sound check. The reason was because WRIF was recording The Rockets for a live simulcast that night, and there was a buzz in one of the mike lines that the sound engineer's couldn't figure out. We went way over time, John didn't get his check in and he was not happy about it. I tried to explain it to him. Oh well!!! Anyway, it wasn't long after that John broke out, and became a huge star, he deserved it. He's a great songwriter, when his albums started to sell he dropped his other moniker, “Little Bastard”!!!

Loved Sultans of Swing on the radio so picked up a couple of tickets at Schoolkids. Maybe 250 people to see what I consider one of the greatest shows I've ever witnessed! Knopfler can play, tight band! Love to travel back in time to see this one again.

Some Girls tour and some girl almost got to see this show instead of me. My buddy scored 2 tickets and I was elated then he started to say he was thinking about taking his girl friend. I am SO glad I was chosen, my favorite band at the time and an amazing show, great memories here!
